Keshi-type freshwater pearls are very special pearls, they tend to be flat, especially in the larger sizes, and their intense luster and baroque shape are the most notable characteristics.
In addition to their characteristics, the cultivation process of these pearls is also very special. To culture traditional pearls, a piece of mantle tissue from a donor mussel is embedded in a mussel and returned to the water to be surrounded by mother-of-pearl to create a pearl, two years later when it is removed from the water to extract the pearls that it has created, on some occasions, if the pearls obtained are of good quality, the mussel is closed again and returned to the water for another long period, but this time without including any nucleus. Since the pearl sac has already formed on the first occasion, the mussel continues to generate nacre, resulting in a wonderful freshwater Keshi pearl.
